Job summary:
Evaluates moderately complex loan applications in accordance with regulations, industry standards and synovus policyPerforms duties using automated scoring systems or traditional underwriting, as neededGathers additional applicant information needed to make sound decisionsMay interview applicants by phone and submit loan applicationsResponds to internal and external customer inquiries as necessary.
Job duties and responsibilities:
Receives and processes moderately complex consumer loan requests (including heloc and other consumer-purpose home mortgage products) from new originations, renewals, and the refinancing and modification of existing loans.
Handles inbound calls from call centers or warm hand-offs from a branch to assist customers with applying for a loanAssesses customer needs and promotes appropriate lending productsEstablishes rapport with customers and identifies cross-selling opportunities.
Interviews applicants to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings and financial conditionCompletes and submits web based data capture form.
Serves as a subject matter expert on consumer lending processes, policies and products for internal and external customers.
Adheres to established loan policies and proceduresWorks within documented approval process to ensure that underwriting and credit quality standards are maintainedResolves exceptions and non-standard underwriting issues.
Reviews all override opportunities and if necessary, escalates to team lead or other appropriate reviewer in accordance with the escalation procedureAfter additional analysis, may approve or decline some moderately complex loans during override reviewMay recommend approval of loan applications, pricing and policy exceptions that are minimally beyond the organization`s standard guidelinesRecommended exceptions to underwriting will maintain regulatory requirements and risk mitigation.
Ensures compliance with all consumer regulations, including fair lending, and ensures loan policy limits are observed on all loans processedStays abreast of variations in laws across state boundaries.
Protects the assets of the bank by aggressively managing credit quality and minimizing losses.
Conducts income verificationConducts outbound approval and declination callsCommunicates underwriting results and approval recommendations to front-line lendersCollaborates with lender to obtain proper documentation for loan approval.
Maintains accurate, timely, and orderly records and files of completed work and work -in-progressForwards decisioned loan applications to processing team.
All loan processing and review will be conducted in a timely, efficient manner in accordance with service level agreements for the retail lending center.
Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional areaThis includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their roleAdditionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate company authority in a timely fashion.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum education: bachelor`s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum experience: two (2) to four (4) years job specific experience certification(s): this position requires successful registration and issuance of a unique identification number from the nationwide mortgage licensing system (nmls) in compliance with the secure and fair enforcement for mortgage licensing act of 2008 (safe act)Registration must be accomplished within 30 days of employment and includes a nationwide finger print check.
Required knowledge, skills, & abilities:
Experience in consumer lending with demonstrated work experience in the following areas: analyzing and interpreting basic financial statements and tax returns; performing diverse analysis and preparing supporting documentation for management review.
Knowledge, understanding and the ability to interpret synovus loan policy
Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing consumer lending
Understanding of credit scoring and pricing models
Knowledge of credit risk analysis/underwriting principles, methods, practices and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of consumer loan products
Ability to gather information and provide appropriate answers to lending related questions
Proficient in lending systems and credit scoring systems
Proficient in microsoft office including word and excel
Very good customer service skills with the ability to meet service level agreements on a daily basis
Ability to use work flow tool
Strong oral and written communication skills
