Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as an underwriting operations manager!
About the role as the underwriting operations manager (uom) you will be an important member of the underwriting teamThe uom is responsible for staffing, training and ongoing employee development of the underwriting support staff as well as for the efficient operations of each assigned support function, which may include but is not limited to healthcare data analysts and underwriting analystsIn addition, you’ll work closely with the assistant vice presidents of underwriting on areas such as growth development building out of additional support teams, budgeting, business continuity planning, records management and project management.
What you will do
Implement and oversee programs and workflows designed to deliver best-in-class underwriting support service.
Responsible for operations in each assigned area for stop loss.
Inspires your team and build their confidence by setting positive examples.
Ensure that workflows and processes are in alignment with changing underwriting and compliance requirements.
Anticipate potential obstacles or trends affecting the industry and recommend solutions.
Continue to stay on top of internal system policies and are well versed with all business applications.
Oversee support staff in assigned support functions.
Develop, enhance and monitor individual performance for each team member.
Resolve problems across departments and enhance workflows
Interview, hire and train new team members.
Anticipate business needs in order to facilitate system and workflow enhancements and development.
Responsible for building out additional support teams and functional areas.
Help manage impact of system interfaces with critical areas of the company, such as underwriting, sales, contract services, claims, finance, and actuarial.

Salary range: $78,900-$131,500 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Your skills and abilities
5+ years of stop loss underwriting experience
Proficient microsoft excel skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to quickly grasp business needs & objectives
Excellent communication skills
Multitask and handle conflicting priorities
Manage time and work independently
Effectively collaborate with others in a team environment
Strong organizational skills
Proven relationship skills, able to maintain trusted relationships with employees across the organization
