Director, research and data analytics scope of role the director, data sits within the newly created policy and research teamResponsible for the data team as well as delivery of a small portfolio of high priority, data-oriented research projects and initiatives contributing to fhn’s policy and research objectives and overall thought leadershipThe role requires excellent team management and mentorship skills, experience with the broad set of data analysis tools used by fhn, and the strategic capacity and executional excellence to conceive of, manage, and disseminate meaningful research content that moves policymakers and organizations to take action on financial healthEducation bachelor’s degree requiredLocation chicago, washington d.c., or new york city; fully remote (u.sBased) qualifications

10+ years of professional experience and demonstrated success leading research and data teamsAdditional years of education (graduate degree) may be substituted for up to four years of experience.
Data-specific qualifications:

Are you the expert in survey methodology and experimental methods? we are looking for a leader who utilizes these methods to conduct rigorous analysis.
Are you an administrative data aficionado? experience with financial transaction or claims data is a plus (but definitely something we can teach!).
Do you have experience managing data infrastructure, code, and data strategy? we are looking for someone who feels comfortable teaching others these data management techniques.
Utilize statistical analysis and advanced analytic techniques, such as econometric and multivariate model estimation? come join us and be our data expert!
Are you a data science expert? knowledge of machine learning and predictive analytic techniques, a significant plus.
Expertise in r and/or stataProficiency in other statistical software is a plus.
Innovative and curious? we are seeking someone who is always thirsty to continue to learn current and upcoming data analytical skills through ongoing training opportunities and research.

Experience working with funders, clients, and internal and external stakeholders to collaborate and design rigorous research projects and structure analysis.
Strong collaboration skills
Good presentation skills; ability to connect with both technical and non-technical individuals, including the ability to communicate clearly, set priorities, problem-solve, influence, and motivate multiple audiences when presenting complex analyses.
Ability to commit to up to 10% domestic travel, with very occasional evening meetings (1 to 2 a quarter).

Responsibilities

Team leadership

Lead data team, ensuring efficient capacity allocation and management across all data projects and promoting necessary skills development and specialization across the team.
Quickly build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Serve as a member of the policy and research leadership team to help align priorities, ensure team cohesion, and promote staff development.
Ensure the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (dei) best practices throughout all projects
Complete financial and impact reporting accurately and on time.
Support and occasionally lead business development activities for analytical projects across the organization to ensure successful revenue generation in line with mission, including prospecting, project scoping, and proposal development.

Data analysis and management

Conduct statistical analysis of survey and administrative data.
Serve as a resource for internal stakeholders with data analysis questions.
Oversee necessary data infrastructure development and maintenance for the organization, in collaboration with research, program, and operations teams.
Work with the marketing and communications team to communicate results and impact of fhn’s research initiatives to an external audience.

Research design and dissemination

Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on financial health topics, especially those related to measurement, statistical analysis, and data, to internal and external audiences.
Work with internal and external clients to design rigorous research solutions that best address identified research questions.
Communicate the results of complex statistical analyses in presentations and writing for a variety of audiences

Project management

Lead and manage a small portfolio of high-priority research projects with a data focus.
Develop project budgets, manage staff capacity, and track project goals to ensure projects meet financial and impact targets.
