- Communicates effectively with patients about preparation for the test including removal of garments or jewellery that may interfere with procedure and explain how the process works.
- Positions ,explains and observe patients properly to obtain X-rays, CT scans, MR scans, or mammograms ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Sets the equipment to obtain the best density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged.
- Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and staff to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.
- Applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems.
- Ability to closely follow physician’s instructions, prepares radiography equipment, position patients, and obtains optimal images for diagnosis.
- Ability to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of patients including the elderly, ailing, and handicapped.
- Reviews and evaluates developed x-rays, video tape, or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Key commands and data into computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and receivers, or photograph certain images.
- Monitors video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality, also remove and processes film.
- Monitor patients’ conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
- Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready and prepare oral/iv contrast media for (Investigations)patients.
- Records, processes and maintains patient data and treatment records, and coordinate in preparation of reports.
- Coordinate work with front office personnel and other staff.
- Measure thickness of section to be radiographed, using instruments similar to measuring tapes.
- Operates fluoroscope to aid physician to view and guide wire or catheter through blood vessels to area of interest.
- Collaborates with other medical team members, such as physicians and nurses, to conduct angiography or special vascular procedures.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment in coordination with biomedical department
- Possesses knowledge of infection control and waste management.
- Ensures updated knowledge of procedures.
- Ensures JCI compliance in accordance with departmental requirements.
