About warrior-scholar project
In partnership with more than 20 top colleges and universities, warrior-scholar project (wsp) hosts intensive, one and two-week college-preparatory academic boot camps for enlisted veterans and transitioning service membersBoot camps are offered in three disciplines: humanities, stem, and business & entrepreneurshipThrough faculty lectures, workshops and research projects, tailored assignments, and one-on-one tutoring, warrior-scholars acquire the skills to succeed in higher education and navigate the cultural shift from military service to collegeThroughout the course, warrior-scholars are mentored by student veterans (fellows) who have successfully transitioned from the military to collegeWsp also offers workshops tailored to address the unique needs of veterans enrolled in community colleges and targeted programming for underrepresented veterans, such as the wsp women veterans empowerment dialoguesAll programming is provided at no cost to student veterans and service members.
About the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion
The director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (dei) will build relationships and identify actionable processes for warrior-scholar project to internally and externally cultivate a culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive for all organizational stakeholdersThis role will lead dei strategy throughout all wsp?s areas of impact through collaboration among central staff, fellows, and board membersThis role is to complement the director of human resources? role by collaborating to design, evaluate, and utilize human resource processes that integrate compliance and dei cultureThis role is to serve a dei subject-matter-expert to wsp staff, students, and board members to advocate and collaboratively cultivate a dei organizational community for all members of the organizational stakeholdersThis role is structured within the organization to serve as a consult resource to proactively develop dei cultural practices and have the agency to resolve or escalate conflicts of concern when necessary.
Responsibilities
Develop organizational dei strategy to implement and assess in collaboration with wsp board of directors and executive leadership that cultivates internal and external facing impacts
Design a process to identify levels of accountability and measurement of dei strategic goals outlined in the dei strategic plan and consistently assess outcomes
Design and facilitate dei seminars to equip wsp central staff and fellows with the skills and resources to cultivate a dei culture in day-to-day operations and programming
Design and facilitate an engaging seminar on the topic of diverse dialogues to equip wsp fellows with the skills and resources to facilitate conversations among diverse cohorts
Collaborate with the director of human resources to develop and implement strategic actions on recruitment, hiring, and retaining wsp central staff members and fellows to attract and retain a diverse team
Collaborate with the director of human resources to develop, maintain, and perform processes related to federal regulations surrounding discrimination and opportunity, bias reporting, and organizational sense of belonging shared practices
Collaborate with the director human resources to design and implement identity-based resource spaces and facilitate conversations with wsp central staff and fellows
Collaborate with the recruitment and admissions central staff to develop and implement strategic actions on recruitment and placement of wsp participants to diversify cohorts
Collaborate with marketing and communications central staff to develop and implement strategic actions to include and correspond with diverse populations
Collaborate with education central staff to develop and implement strategic actions when assembling established and new academic curriculums to diversify institutional types and locations, required reading materials, faculty, and tutors
Collaborate with education central staff to design and implement identity-based resource spaces and facilitate conversations for participants and alumni
Collaborate with operations and finance central staff to develop and implement strategic actions ensure equitable and inclusive processes across the organization
Serve as wsp?s primary point of contact with host institutions? diversity personnel to identify and address accessibility and inclusive processes to jointly cultivate a sense of belonging experience for all wsp stakeholders on campus
Advise wsp board of directors, executive leadership, and development on dei strategy concerning fundraising and expanding to a diverse donor partner network
Travel to support wsp staff training and limited travel to support external-facing events t
Work evenings and weekends as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by ceo to meet wsp operational needs
Skills and experience
Master?s degree required
Experienced in topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion related to organizational culture and strategy, required
Knowledge of identity-based lived experiences and concepts of intersectionality, including but not limited to race, gender, lgbtq, religion, military-connection status, disability, education level, socio-economic status, and neurodiversity, required
The ability to actively engage with diverse populations and experiences to facilitate conflict management resolution and mediation to cultivate a sense of belonging and community building, required
Strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusionRespect for individuals? diverse experiences and the ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds, required
Experienced working in nonprofit, higher education, or veteran serving organization field, strongly desired
Well-versed in military culture and veteran?s affairs specifically with the military to civilian transition process, strongly desired
Veteran or military spouse, preferred
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Strong critical thinking skills, organizational ability, and interpersonal skills
Proficient in google workspace and microsoft suite of products
Ability to shift between working independently and collaboratively and manage multiple tasks and timelines in a remote working environment
Spanish speaking and writing fluency preferred
Physical requirements to meet essential job functions
Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods behind a desk
Communicating with others to exchange information
Light lifting such as carrying laptops or books.
Making and receiving phone calls
Ability to travel and to work nights and weekends as needed
Ability to utilize a computer to complete job tasksIncluding but not limited to sending emails, and reading documents
