Field service engineers need to have extensive knowledge of hardware, software and machines. Their interpersonal skills and communication skills also need to be strong, as they offer customer service and technical support to clients and may need to work in teams.
Service engineering is a process that decomposes the system into self-running units that perform or expose services (reusable services). The three actors in a service-oriented environment are service providers, service users and service registries.
The trainee engineer’s responsibilities include attending meetings, conducting desktop and field research, performing all practical and administrative duties assigned by the supervisor, traveling to other sites when required, assisting on projects, offering suggestions for improvement, and writing up reports.
