About the position
A manager of academic counseling leads designated counseling professional staff to ensure delivery of consistent advisement, coaching and service to engage a diverse population of students starting from their first course until after graduationThis role is responsible for the coaching and development of the academic counselor role and for the implementation of university initiatives that impact student progression and graduationThis includes coordination and facilitation of daily operations, providing coaching on ways to influence student advisement, developing strategies for creating meaningful student connections, and to assess and evaluate student needs for continuous improvementsDevelops academic advising professionals by using everyday performance, coaching for future outcomes, and jointly owned goals to improve student satisfactionCollaborates with internal to improve the student experience, and audits and analyzes internal policies and procedures to recommend process improvements.
What you’ll do
1Provide coaching, development, and accountability to academic advising professionals around the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities that positively affect student satisfaction through meaningful relationships, and progression to graduation.
2Coach team on academic advisement strategies for new and continuing students, program requirements, and intervention plans that support student progression, and long-term success.
3Provide everyday coaching, assessment and evaluation, with a focus on future outcomes to guide employees in meeting their own professional and personal goals.
4Act as a liaison for and collaborate with stakeholders across the university to maintain and uphold compliance, regulations, policies, and procedures.
5Perform audits and analysis to ensure expectations are met and strategies are executed to support student progression, and a positive student experienceUtilize all available tools and resources to plan student interventions and make recommendations; including recommendations across departments in effort to deliver on the commitment of first time resolution.
6Administer training programs and activities as well as provide feedback on ways to continuously improve the student experience by way of recommending changes, and sharing student feedback.
7Responsible for the implementation of university initiatives that impact student progression and graduationTake ownership for delivery of messaging by placing value on building the university and create connections to align with the mission, vision, and strategic goalsExecute on deliverables through establishing buy-in, accelerating the growth and development of academic professionals, and instilling accountability.
8Participate in the talent acquisition process to assist in identifying top talent and assist in the on-boarding process to support the transitionProvide ongoing development and everyday coaching to lend to ongoing improvements within the role and to assist in reaching professional aspirations.
9Establish and maintain professional working relationships across internal departments to ensure students and employees benefit from a variety of professional knowledge and perspectives.
10Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Supervisory responsibilities
Yes, develops, coaches and supervises academic advising professionals which may include re-entry representatives and student services administrators
Minimum education, experience, knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree is required from a regionally accredited institution.
Three years of experience as an academic counselor at university of phoenix, or equivalent experience in a related field of education, student or social services, or academic coaching
One year of proven experience leading or mentoring in and education, service, operations or business environment with organizing, leading and/or supervising department activities, processes and professional development of others.
Additional/preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
Degree that is specifically in a related field preferred
General knowledge of the higher education industry and familiarity with the uopx mission, vision and goals.
Profiency in microsoft suite and email communication.
Ability to quickly learn software applications, systems and new platforms for communication.
High level of analytical ability to assess and evaluate counselor performance during student interactions and provide individualized action plans for improvements.
Significant level of interpersonal skills to be able to effectively uncover and influence an individual’s attitudes and beliefs that impact their role and the success of their students.
Ability to manage various tasks and commitments simultaneously in order to prioritize and plan for counselor workload and the execution of various university-wide initiatives.
Ability to adapt to change to quickly learn and apply new information and skills.
Ability to independently manage multiple projects, processes and activities.

Hiring range for this position is between $71500 and $78000.
