Job Details In this role you will provide experience and hands on development of features and tools used by the Cloud Storage Engineering team. Additionally, you will work in partnership with our Storage Architect to deliver Cloud Storage services and standards to Thomson Reuters product teams. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate technical aptitude and interest in learning new technologies. While we have historically maintained a strong on-premises presence, The Cloud Storage team is primarily focused on Cloud Storage technology going forward. As part of the teams responsibilities, you will be working on Proof Of Concept on Cloud Storage infrastructure, creation of standard deployment patterns templates (i.e.
using CloudFormation) and data migration consultancy and support. This will be primarily on AWS, though there is scope to include other Cloud providers in future (Azure, OCI and Google Cloud). About the Role In this opportunity as Cloud Storage Engineer, you will: Strategy and Technology (70%) Support the team’s development and engineering initiatives as directed by the team’s manager, undertaking regular task assignment and review. Design and maintain Cloud Storage governance processes including standards management, team operating procedures and cost optimization. Identify opportunities for service improvements, communicate standards and change to internal business users. Create standardised deployment pattern templates for Storage systems. Technical Contribution (30%) Be jointly accountable for the Cloud Storage services to the business users. Work with various external vendors to progress our technology and service requirements.
Ensure that the on-going service delivery and support meet or exceed Platform Engineering service objectives. Ensure consistent and appropriate communication with customer(s) for service-related enquiries and issues. About You You’re a fit for the role of Senior Cloud Storage Engineer if your background includes: Bachelor of Computer Science or related field; or equivalent level of experience. 3+ years progressive technology experience. Strongly prefer candidates with Cloud Storage development, deployment and administration experience. Strongly prefer candidates with AWS experience. Additional exposure to another Cloud provider would be advantageous. Prefer candidates with general systems administration experience – Linux(preferred)/Windows. Programming/scripting at an intermediate level in Python.
Required Skills Being passionate about developing highly performant, scalable and resilient cloud native storage solutions. Exposure in delivering code for active Cloud services/projects. Exposure with cloud technologies and platforms such as AWS or Azure and use of their APIs and configuration tools including CloudFormation. Understanding of ISCSI, SMB, NFS, Object protocols and data storage in general would be highly advantageous. Desired Skills Understanding of backup technologies and approaches to backing up data in cloud and on-premises. Exposure in Storage data migrations. Exposure in Storage data replication techniques such as SnapMirror, Snapvault, Data motion, DoubleTake, DataSync etc.
Exposure in ONTAP CLI and/or RestAPI Exposure with object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms and can create and follow coding practices and standards. Experience in an agile/lean development framework like Scrum. Familiarity with software build and testing using tools like Jenkins. General cloud DevOps skills. Familiarity with Github.
