What you`ll do:
Initiates, designs, and conducts epidemiological projects, research, and investigations pertaining to tobacco use prevention and cessation, associated health behaviors, and health outcomes using data collected as part of the ohio tobacco surveillance system (otss);
Coordinates epidemiological database management and provides quality control for data management aspects of the otss;
Serves as lead worker over lower-level tobacco epidemiology investigators, program consultants, and support staff;
Monitors analysis of data to predict increases or decreases in morbidity and mortality, and assists in evaluation of levels of success of prevention programs;
Collects and monitors collection of human biological and environmental specimens and assures delivery to laboratory;
Tabulates and analyzes epidemiological data associated with tobacco use prevention and cessation, (e.g., rates of smoking and tobacco use, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality, health disparities and social determinants, exposure to secondhand smoke, perceptions of/exposure to tobacco advertising, prevalence of tobacco policy adoption, and cessation quit rates);
Applies appropriate statistical analysis and methods using statistical computer software packages (e.g., sas, r, tableau, arcgis);
Oversees the administration, collection, and monitoring of data for selected ohio surveys and data collection systems related to tobacco;
Prepares materials for and speaks at medical, professional, and public meetings.
Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at pay grade 33, step 1 of the ocsea pay range schedule ($28.80 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($30.20) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
This position will work monday-friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (flexible)For now, odh positions are 100% remote (we supply equipment)Once conditions support a safe return onsite, our long-term plan is a `hybrid` workweek, with part of your time working from home (exact split tbd).

Additional qualifications:

Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine
Coursework in epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematics
Experience using statistical/analytic software (e.g., sas, redcap, r, tableau, arcgis)
Experience in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting health-related data
Experience developing analytic reports and presentations
Experience in survey design and analysis
Experience in program evaluation
Experience using data to develop and implement public health programs and policies

Qualifications
Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine;
3 courses or 9 months experience in use of statistical computer software packages;
6 months experience as epidemiology investigator with local or federal health agency;
Must be able to provide own transportation.
Or
6 months experience as epidemiology investigator 2 (65762) with the state of ohio;
Must be able to provide own transportation.
Or
Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
Knowledge of biology; microbiology; physiology; human anatomy; chemistry; epidemiology; biostatistics; human relations; interviewing; agency policies & procedures pertaining to epidemiological investigations & control of infections & chronic diseases*; electronic data processing (i.e., statistical analysis systems & statistical package for social sciences);computer operationsSkill in use of phlebotomy equipment*; personal computerAbility to select & use proper statistical & research methods in gathering, interpreting & developing data; define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public; write &/or edit articles for publication; prepare & deliver speeches before specialized audiences & general public; demonstrate dexterity to use hands skillfully.
