Planned parenthood of northern new england (ppnne) is seeking an experienced candidate to fill a full time (37.5hours/week) labor & employee relations manager position with flexibility to be based remotely out of maine, new hampshire or vermontThis position will manage, facilitate, and direct labor relations on behalf of ppnne and serve as a key contributor to the development and maintenance of the collective bargaining relationship and strategies with employee unions in me, nh & vt.
Essential functions
Administers and manages administration of labor contracts; provides interpretation of labor contracts to managers and employees; oversees processes for review and resolution of employee grievances.
Advises managers and employees on sensitive labor and employee relations matters, including grievance and arbitration procedures, performance issues and disciplinary actions; advises and assists managers in identifying employee/labor relations issues and determining appropriate course of action.
May serve as ppnne’s chief negotiator in contract negotiations with recognized employee organizationsMaintains current knowledge of employee and labor relations trends, legal decisions, and statutory changes; conducts research necessary to support contract negotiations and employee relations.
Uses appropriate negotiation strategies to develop bargaining goals and negotiate contracts consistent with the organization’s mission, values and goals.
Provides guidance to management staff by contract interpretation, investigation and advice on a full range of employee/labor relations matters including informal and formal grievances, development of performance management plans, disciplinary issues, and reduction in force issues.
Facilitates on-going communication and working relationships with union representatives including coordination of the labor-management committee.
Provides information, advice and assistance to managers and staff regarding application of statutes, regulations, contracts and employee/labor relations practices relating to their functional areas.
Manages the process to investigate and respond to complaints from the national labor relations board or other agencies.
May represent ppnne in arbitrations and unfair labor practice complaints.
Participates in the development and delivery of management training programs designed to advance the employee/labor relations skills of management staff.
Administers and maintains all aspects of the labor relations information system.
Maintain absolute confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
Incorporate a high level of customer satisfaction into all aspects of operations.
Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork, understand that staffing needs and schedules fluctuate which will require flexible work schedules and/or additional work hours.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Related degree, certificate or diploma in business administration, labor relations, human resources or related field, plus 5-7 years’ experience in leading contract administration, grievance processing, performance management and disciplinary activities, as well as facilitating on-going communication and working relationships with union representatives and other stakeholders.
Demonstrates strong decision-making skills and ability to manage confidential, sensitive situations
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and satisfaction
Strong problem-solving skills
Familiarity and comfort level with all services provided by ppnne
Microsoft office experience with particularly strong excel skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to prioritize, juggle multiple deadlines and meet tight timeframes
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers and vendors
Ability to operate all normal office equipment
Compensation & benefits
The starting range of pay for this position is $72,000/yearAccess to benefits is available including health, dental and vision coverage, paid time off and a retirement fund.
