The lutheran center (national office) is located in chicago, illinoisA staff of 400, under the leadership of the presiding bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the elca and its ministriesStaff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including lutheran disaster response, elca world hunger, service & justice, christian community and leadership, and innovationWe are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: the mission investment fund of the elca, women of the elca, lutheran men in mission, the elca foundation and the elca federal credit union.
About the position
The christian community and leadership (ccl) home area helps the elca reach and engage new, younger, and more diverse people welcoming them into the christian faithWe invite all staff to create conditions so that we can strengthen our existing congregations and grow younger, ethnically diverse, economically diverse, and among the lgbtqia+ communityTo this end, we will activate and engage our core membership and work with the whole of the elca to recruit, develop and deploy the leadership, both lay and rostered, that the church needs to fulfill its purpose of establishing and growing christian communities, spreading the gospel of jesus christ, and building the church.
This position provides leadership and direction for a coordinated approach to youth ministry across the church in close collaboration with multiple faith formation partnersSignificant time and attention will be given to networking and relationship building with others who share a passion for affirming and including the gifts of youth in the whole life of the church and to the emphasis of growing young in the elca.
This is a full-time, regular, exempt, remote position.
1Leads a growing young team with others designated to increase the elca’s capacity to connect with young people, especially in our existing congregations.
2Builds and expands close working relationships with strategic partners in youth ministry, especially the network of synodical youth ministry adult leaders (symbol), and the elca youth ministry network.
3Provides opportunities for the leadership development of youth, including the youth core leadership team (yclt) and the annual youth leadership summitFacilitates the networking of various youth leadership schools, labs, and events across synods of the elca.
4Works with strategic partners to plan and implement special events for youth; including the elca youth gathering, the multicultural youth leadership event (myle), the table event for youth with disabilities, and supports youth voting members at the churchwide assembly.
5Serves as an expert for the churchwide organization and synods on current trends and resources related to youth ministry.
6Oversees content development for youth ministry communications including websites and the regular use of social media in collaboration with the strategic communications team.
7Represents the churchwide organization at events related to youth ministry (i.e., nccc, lwf, synod assemblies, etc.)
8Performs other duties/responsibilities as required.
Requirements:
1Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of program management experience or coordination of youth ministry leadership within the congregation, synod and/or churchwide expressions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the elca; commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; knowledge of lutheran theology, particularly that of the elca; extensive understanding of and experience with faith formation, vocational discernment, and leadership development activities.
3Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, public speaking, writing and social media; experience using microsoft office suite of applications (outlook, teams, word, excel, etc.) and other web-based tools/platforms.
4Strong collaboration skills; experience working with multiple constituencies within the church including ethnic specific, multicultural and lgbtqia+ communities.
5Budget and financial management experience.
6Ability to learn elca specific software programs: elca grantmaker (grants), ecis database (crm), elca community (resource sharing), and workday (accounting).

Salary
Commensurate with qualifications and experienceMinimum: $60,195.
